    Otter Products is currently recruiting for a Tooling Engineer to join our Operations team in sunny San Diego, CA! As the Tooling Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring we have the right tools for the right projects with the right partners. This individual will monitor the design for manufacturing (DFM) process and all quality initiatives as it applies to tooling and tool building.  Intrigued? Keep reading…


    *Position may be hired as an Associate Tooling Engineer or Tooling Engineer depending on candidate experience (see below).


    The successful candidate will have experience with plastic injection mold design, processing for plastic injection molding machines, and knowledge of engineering resins.  In addition, you must have some expertise using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Pro-E or similar 3D modeling software.  This position will require excellent communication skills in order to communicate with contract manufacturers overseas.  Bilingual language skills in Mandarin/Chinese would be a huge plus.   Also, if you like to travel, this is the job for you!  30-40% of the position will entail traveling both domestically and to our offices and contract manufacturers in China.     • Partners with cross functional team to support state of the art tooling strategies and development
    • Follows all employee guidelines and Quality Systems Regulations as defined by practices, policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) to insure that customer requirements and regulations are met.
    • Performs live design for manufacturability (DFM) review, mold flow analysis on part designs for moldability and manufacturability, and provides feedback to design engineers.
    • Reviews tool design with tool shops and contract manufacturers and provides final approval.
    • Facilitates vendor requirement reviews and mold specifications and acts as vendor liaison for all tooling/molding related issues.
    • Supports tooling timelines for the design, fabrication, and qualification of injection molds and any tooling or equipment requirements.
    • Facilitates technical design reviews of assembly equipment, measurement requirements, and test fixtures and gages.
    • Facilitates the inspection of molds, fixtures, gages, and dispositions discrepancies.
    • Facilitates qualification of injection molded components per SOP.
    • Provides sustaining engineering support on molds, fixtures, and gages already in production.
    • Support and maintain a positive safety culture by following all safety policies and procedures and actively contributing to a safe working environment

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required. Six years’ experience in lieu of degree may be considered.
    • Ability to travel up to 40% both domestically and internationally required.
    • *Minimum 4 years of tool building or tool making experience is preferred; 1-2 years for Associate level. 
    • Bilingual in Mandarin/Chinese preferred.
